Shower faucet full of limescale—how do you clean it so it looks like new again?

1. Use vinegar soak

Vinegar is a natural acid that effectively dissolves limescale deposits on shower faucets. To use this method, soak a cloth or paper towel in white vinegar and wrap it around the affected areas of the faucet. Let it sit for at least an hour. The acidity of the vinegar will break down the mineral buildup, loosening it from the surface.

After soaking, remove the cloth and wipe the faucet with a damp sponge or cloth. If the limescale is stubborn, you can repeat the soaking process or increase the soaking time slightly. This method is safe for most faucet finishes but avoid prolonged exposure on delicate surfaces to prevent damage.

2. Apply baking soda paste

Baking soda is mildly abrasive and works well to scrub away residual limescale after the vinegar soak. Create a paste by mixing baking soda with a small amount of water until it reaches a spreadable consistency. Apply the paste directly onto the limescale deposits on the faucet.

Allow the baking soda paste to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. This resting time helps the paste break down the mineral deposits further. Once set, the paste can be scrubbed off easily, often revealing a cleaner surface beneath. Baking soda is gentle enough to avoid scratching most faucet finishes.
