3. Apply paste evenly
Using a clean sponge or gloved hands, spread the baking soda paste over the interior surfaces of your oven. Focus on areas with visible grease, burnt-on food, or stains, but apply it evenly across all accessible surfaces, including the oven floor, walls, and ceiling.
Be careful to avoid the heating elements and any electrical components. Cover the paste layer about 1/4 inch thick; a thin, consistent coating is best for maximum contact and cleaning action.
For hard-to-reach corners or stubborn spots, use a small brush or an old toothbrush to work the paste thoroughly into crevices.
4. Let paste sit overnight
Allow the baking soda paste to work its magic by leaving it on the oven surfaces for at least 12 hours or overnight. This extended contact time enables the alkaline properties of baking soda to break down grease, carbon deposits, and grime effectively.
During this period, avoid using the oven or disturbing the paste. The longer it sits, the easier the cleaning process will be when you wipe it away.
5. Initial wipe down
After the paste has had sufficient time to work, use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away as much of the dried baking soda paste as possible. You may need to rinse the cloth frequently to remove loosened grime and residue.
For particularly stubborn areas, gentle scraping with a plastic spatula or scraper can help lift the dried paste without damaging the oven’s surfaces.
Remove all paste remnants before proceeding to the next cleaning steps to avoid residue buildup.
